About Karen
Hi! I'm Karen, a Certified Professional Coach. I knew I wanted to tell you something about me but wasn't sure what to say until a dear friend of mine, another coach, said, "tell your story". I like that idea; it resonates with me. Probably because I like to read other people's stories. Who am I? In addition to being a wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, animal lover and wire sculptor, I am a professional life coach.
After 32 years in a professional career that started in Social Work and turned into 25 plus years as a manager and leader in Fortune 100 company's such as Microsoft and Digital Equipment Corporation, I found my passion, coaching. I LOVE being a coach! I had a wonderful time serving, supporting and coaching teams in corporations but I knew I wanted something more. Many times I thought about going back to school to study the field of counseling. Something always held me back. I discovered what I was really meant to do when I was invited to attend a Fundamentals of Coaching course at Microsoft in 2003. I couldn't get enough of all that was offered in that course. It was two and half days and I wanted it for life! It was then I made the decision to take the sequence of courses offered by CTI (the Coaches Training Institute) and formally become a coach. I'd always acted as a coach in my roles as a Corporate Leader/Manager but I wanted to do more. I began coaching people outside my organization at Microsoft as well as people outside the company. I grew hungrier and hungrier to learn more of what coaching and coaches have to offer. I decided to take my training, knowledge and experience to the next level. I signed up for CTI's CoActive Professional Coach Certification Program in 2008 and completed it in April, 2009. I successfully completed the program, the written and oral exams and was awarded my CPCC certification in August, 2009.
In May, 2009 my job was eliminated at Microsoft. I chose to think of this as "winning the lottery!" (see my post about CHOICE) I'd been given the time to focus on making my vision a reality and become a fulltime coach. Today I use my training, skill and life experience to coach individual clients and teams. In November 2009 a peer coach and I launched the workshop we developed called, Vision, Courage, Action (click on workshops and coaching for Business to read more about this) for a group of Admissions Directors at Bowling Green State University (BGSU).
I'm a life long learner with a yearning to guide others toward turning their visions into reality.
